"The Nobel Peace Prize" (Norwegian and Swedish: Nobels fredspris) is one of the five Nobel Prizes bequeathed by the Swedish industrialist and inventor Alfred Nobel.

Laureates receive a heavily decorated diploma together with a gold medal and the prize money. 

Peace Prize shall be awarded to the person;

(1) who "shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses." 

(2) "In addition to humanitarian efforts and peace movements, the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded for work in a wide range of fields including advocacy of human rights, mediation of international conflicts, and arms control.

(The Nobel Foundation was founded on 29 June 1900 specifically to manage the finances and administration of the Nobel Prizes.)

Nomination

Each year, the Norwegian Nobel Committee specifically invites qualified people to submit nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. The statutes of the Nobel Foundation specify categories of individuals who are eligible to make nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize.

A. Members of national assemblies and governments and members of the Inter-Parliamentary Union

B. Members of the Permanent Court of Arbitration and the International Court of Justice at the Hague

C. Members of Institute de Droit International

D. University professors of history, social sciences, philosophy, law and theology, university presidents and directors of peace research and international affairs institutes

E. Former recipients, including board members of organizations that have previously won the prize

F. Present and past members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee

G. Former permanent advisers to the Norwegian Nobel Institute
